In some cases, improper disinfection of the tooth can also lead to complications. If Dr. Baker determines that retreatment is necessary, he will reopen the tooth to access the root canal filling material. In some cases, post and filling material may also need to be removed to effectively eliminate the infection and ensure a thorough cleaning of the tooth. This allows for proper healing and restoration.
Once the canal filling material is removed, Dr. Baker will disinfect each canal under the magnification of a microscope. This allows for precise cleaning and helps identify any additional canals, fractures, or unique tooth anatomy that may have been missed during the initial treatment. The use of a microscope ensures thorough treatment and better outcomes for healing.
After the tooth has been thoroughly disinfected, Dr. Baker will place a filling material with a sealer into the canal. At this stage, you will need to return to your dentist for the permanent filling or crown. To maximize the success of the treatment, it’s recommended that the permanent restoration be placed within 3 weeks.
